An NRI, running an NGO here by HIV-AIDS afflicted, was found dead in mysterious circumstances in rented accommodation on Monday, police said.
While police said appeared to be a case of suicide, the deceased – George Dunker Shivanand Khan – had a polythene bag wrapped around his face with a rubber band tied around his neck.
Police officials however told IANS that since the door was locked from the inside and was alone in the room, suicide seems to be the only plausible cause of death.
A British citizen, Khan ran an NGO for people with HIV-AIDS and Lucknow had made his home for the past 12 years. His sister and his mother stay in London and have been informed of his death.
The 55-year-old had dinner last night with Ravindra Kumar Yadav, a young man who had adopted, and then locked himself in the room. Failing to open the room, Yadav was forced to sleep on the veranda of the room. When Khan was unable to open the door Monday morning, Yadav informed the control room of the police and their neighbors.
The police broke open the door of the room only to find the NRI killed and two liquor bottles lying nearby. Police also found a message (SMS) sent from your mobile phone to a person named Ayub was unwilling tense funds to help HIV patients. Also wrote that he would pass away and asked Yadav Ayub care.
The body was sent for autopsy and police are waiting for the flight plans of his mother and sister to make arrangements for legal formalities to be completed.
